Summer kicks into high gear all around the nation on the 4th of July, and San Diego is no exception. If you’re still trying to decide on the best location for a patriotic getaway this year, look no further than San Diego.
4th of July parades, fireworks, and events will be held all over the county, but one of our favorite events is the quintessential Big Bay Firework show. The Big Bay Boom features some of the most spectacular fireworks you’ll ever see, and you can view them from all around the bay, including: Point Loma, Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Seaport Village, South Embarcadero and the Coronado Ferry Landing. The show will be viewed by over 500,000 people and is the largest annual event in the western United States.
Another one of the popular 4th of July events in San Diego will take place in beautiful Coronado. The island will host an exciting 2-hour parade, followed by a family concert in Spreckels Park. Enjoy this fun-filled afternoon on Coronado, and then stick around for a great view of the Big Bay Boom Fireworks!
Here’s everything you need to know about the 2015 Big Bay Boom:
The Show: The Firework show will consist of about 18 minutes of the most technically advanced fireworks, choreographed to match up with music broadcast “live” on THE WALRUS 105.7FM radio. San Diego’s Big Bay Boom begins at 9pm.
Transportation and Parking: Parking along San Diego Bay fills up quickly on the 4th of July, and Shelter Island is usually full by 1 p.m. Last year, Shelter Island was closed to incoming traffic at 1 p.m, and this year it is expected to close at about the same time. So make sure to get there early to avoid the frustration of sitting in traffic and not finding parking. The Big Bay Boom transportation partners help move you in and out of the bay quickly and safely with shuttles, trollies, the Coaster and Amtrack. Click here for more information on parking and transportation.
If you’re looking for a place to call home during these exciting 4th of July events, why not stay with us at Ocean Park Inn? Not only does Ocean Park Inn provide gorgeous ocean views, but we are located close to downtown and Mission Bay where you’re sure to get a great view of fireworks.
Whether you are here on vacation or are a San Diego native, there is no better place to celebrate America’s Independence than its finest city. Stay with us at Ocean Park Inn, grab your friends and family, and enjoy this great summer holiday San Diego style in 2015.
It’s that time of year again: the weather is getting warmer, Summer is on the horizon, and the fair is on its way into town! Experience this once-a-year event at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, from June 5-July 5. Consider staying down the coast a bit at Pacific Beach’s most-loved family hotel, the Ocean Park Inn.
The Del Mar Fair features many musical and talent performances from artists across the board, from nationally known performers, to local professionals and amateur groups. There are also dozens of contests that you can participate in, ranging from agricultural efforts to cooking and even flower arranging. The county fair also includes many animal exhibits such as a petting zoo, where you can feed the animals. The Del Mar Fair theme changes every year, which is a fun way to keep the attendants guessing on what to expect from the attractions and musical performers. In past years the themes have ranged from camping, to music mania. The theme for 2015 will be Planes and Aircraft, and we can’t wait to see what they do with this exciting topic. Still not convinced? Here are a few more reasons to get excited for the Del Mar Fair:
Musical Performers: This year the fair will be hosting musical performers such as Andy Grammer, Austin Mahone and Switchfoot. Along with the musical guests, the world tour of Legends of Rock will be in attendance. This tribute band performs in the Coors Light Rock On Series, a nightly entertainment series that features the finest tribute artists from southern California. Easy Transportation and Cheap Tickets: You can purchase your tickets to the county fair online, at the Del Mar fairgrounds and even at your local Albertsons or Vons. The tickets are usually around $25, and there are many discount deals available as well. When it comes to figuring out transportation, there are many options available to you. Attendees can drive to the fairgrounds, but keep in mind parking is paid. You may also consider taking public transportation like the trolley, or hop on the shuttle bus!
So get your tickets and come on down to Del Mar to find out for yourself why the fair is such a talked-about San Diegan event. Get ready to start your summer off on the right note and come stay with us at www.oceanparkinn.com.
Looking for a fun, charitable event for to enjoy at the end of May? Look no further than the Rock’n’Roll marathon, which offers multiple distance options ranging from 5ks to marathons, all benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This marathon lasts for only two days and is in San Diego from May 29- May 31.
To rest up before and after the race, choose a luxurious room at Ocean Park Inn, an oceanfront oasis just a short drive from downtown San Diego where the race will be held. The Rock’n’Roll Series started in 1998 in San Diego, and now has expanded to over 30 cities annually, including Las Vegas, Chicago, Nashville, Washington DC, Madrid and Mexico City.
The Rock’n’Roll Marathon offers a running experience like no other. Not only are you running for a good cause, but from the start to the finish line there will be a block party surrounding you and cheering you on, complete with special musical performers. In the past, the finish line concert boasted performers like the Goo Goo Dolls, Pitbull, All American Rejects, Macklemore, Lady Antebellum and many more. The Rock’n’Roll Marathon series is defined by great entertainment, and “music festival” energy, but its participants have also raised more than $310 million for participating charities.
Here is some more information if you are considering participating in the Rock ‘roll marathon or just want to lend a helping hand:
Volunteer: Even if running isn’t quite your favorite pastime, you can still do your part and help support your community, as well as the thousands of runners and walkers, by volunteering at the event. There are more than 2,400 volunteering positions available to teams, families, corporate groups and friends. If you are interested in volunteering, all the information about how to sign up is on the Rock’N’Roll website.
Training: Since not everybody is a natural born runner, there is a training staff that can help you through your journey. The coaches will be with you every step of the way, whether it’s your first time running a marathon or you are an experienced runner trying to earn your personal best time.
Sign up today for a good cause. No matter how far you are traveling from, book a room at Ocean Park Inn for a wonderful San Diegan experience.
