It’s that time of year again: the weather is getting warmer, Summer is on the horizon, and the fair is on its way into town! Experience this once-a-year event at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, from June 5-July 5. Consider staying down the coast a bit at Pacific Beach’s most-loved family hotel, the Ocean Park Inn.
The Del Mar Fair features many musical and talent performances from artists across the board, from nationally known performers, to local professionals and amateur groups. There are also dozens of contests that you can participate in, ranging from agricultural efforts to cooking and even flower arranging. The county fair also includes many animal exhibits such as a petting zoo, where you can feed the animals. The Del Mar Fair theme changes every year, which is a fun way to keep the attendants guessing on what to expect from the attractions and musical performers. In past years the themes have ranged from camping, to music mania. The theme for 2015 will be Planes and Aircraft, and we can’t wait to see what they do with this exciting topic. Still not convinced? Here are a few more reasons to get excited for the Del Mar Fair:
Musical Performers: This year the fair will be hosting musical performers such as Andy Grammer, Austin Mahone and Switchfoot. Along with the musical guests, the world tour of Legends of Rock will be in attendance. This tribute band performs in the Coors Light Rock On Series, a nightly entertainment series that features the finest tribute artists from southern California.
Easy Transportation and Cheap Tickets: You can purchase your tickets to the county fair online, at the Del Mar fairgrounds and even at your local Albertsons or Vons. The tickets are usually around $25, and there are many discount deals available as well. When it comes to figuring out transportation, there are many options available to you. Attendees can drive to the fairgrounds, but keep in mind parking is paid. You may also consider taking public transportation like the trolley, or hop on the shuttle bus!
Festivals: Along with the food, rides, contests and music, there are also individual festivals inside of the county fair. This year the festivals will include the “International Beer Festival,” “Toast of the Coast wine festival,” “Spirit and cocktail festival” and many more. At these festivals, you are able to taste all of your favorite alcoholic beverages and maybe even find a new favorite drink.
So get your tickets and come on down to Del Mar to find out for yourself why the fair is such a talked-about San Diegan event. Get ready to start your summer off on the right note and come stay with us at www.oceanparkinn.com.

The Rock’n’Roll Marathon offers a running experience like no other. Not only are you running for a good cause, but from the start to the finish line there will be a block party surrounding you and cheering you on, complete with special musical performers. In the past, the finish line concert boasted performers like the Goo Goo Dolls, Pitbull, All American Rejects, Macklemore, Lady Antebellum and many more. The Rock’n’Roll Marathon series is defined by great entertainment, and “music festival” energy, but its participants have also raised more than $310 million for participating charities.
Here is some more information if you are considering participating in the Rock ‘roll marathon or just want to lend a helping hand:

Graduation time is nearly here, and this big event is particularly exciting for San Diegans, who have a number of great universities to celebrate each year. These ceremonies mark the achievement of students’ hard work and dedication to their education. San Diego State University, University of San Diego and University of California San Diego’s graduations are right around the corner, and local hotels and restaurants are gearing up for the influx of visitors who will be attending the ceremonies in our city. Make sure you book your stay at Ocean Park Inn and make a graduation dinner reservation before it books up!
To help you plan the post-ceremony party, we have put together a few recommendations for great Graduation Dinner spots throughout San Diego:
Downtown: Mister A’s offers a modern American cuisine with French and Mediterranean influences. Mister A’s easily accommodates large groups, making this fining dining restaurant the perfect place to get the whole family together. The stunning panoramic views are the ultimate pair with their tantalizing menu.
La Jolla: Donovan’s by the Cove is known for its standard of fine dining excellence. It is truly a classic steakhouse that is a classy place to celebrate any achievement. Private dining rooms are available as well as regular seating. This La Jolla staple will put an elegant touch on any college graduation celebration.
Little Italy: Bencotto is one of our favorites. Their unique approach to Italian cooking offers hand-made “home style” dishes in a modern and inviting way. The menu is “designed-to-share” so that guests can casually pick and choose dishes, making it ideal for a big family celebration.
Mission Beach: For a laid back, beach celebration, we recommend Cannonball. Newly renovated oceanfront views and irresistible sushi are the name of the game. Enjoy some cocktails, layback and enjoy the views. The open feel of the restaurant is stress free, and it is the perfect place to let loose with friends after four years of hard work.
Mission Valley: King’s Fish House has many special occasion rooms and is a seafood lover’s paradise. The owners have been in the restaurant business for three generations, and it really shows at King’s. This would be a great family style option for any graduation celebration.
Wherever you decide to dine, there is nothing quite like celebrating with great company amongst the positive and exciting buzz of the graduation season. Congratulations to all of San Diego’s 2015 graduates! We wish you the best of luck. Don’t forget to book your stay at Ocean Park Inn!
