San Diego in March means blossoming flowers and trees, spring break weather, St. Patrick’s Day, and much more. To help make planning your stay easier, we’ve compiled a list of events happening this month.

Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch

Nothing says “Spring is here” like flowers! The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch bloom for about 6-8 weeks of the year – from early March to early May. Take a day trip to Carlsbad Ranch 30 minutes north of OPI. You can walk through the fields and stop to smell the roses or join in on one of the many events Carlsbad Ranch puts on throughout the month of March. They offer wagon rides, floral arranging workshops, arts & crafts days and more!

San Diego Film Week

Are you a film lover? Enjoy a day at the movies – actually more like 10 DAYS at the movies! The second annual San Diego Film Week will be put on by the Film Consortium at the Museum of Photographic Arts. The celebration of film will include over 100 local, national, and international films, as well as a variety of panels, parties and workshops.

Best Coast Beer Fest

BEER = Brew. Enjoy. Empty. Repeat. Enjoy a warm day and cold beer at San Diego’s Premier Beer Festival at Embarcadero Park South! You can sample and learn more about the 90 local breweries who will be in attendance, try the local cuisine and listen a variety of bands who will be playing throughout the afternoon.

This event also helps raise money for the Charity partnered with Best Coast Beer Fest (BCBF): Cuck Fancer. Over the past 3 years, BCBF has raised over $50,000 to help raise awareness for young adult cancer survivors get back on their feet.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

If you’re staying with us over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, join the fun and attend the annual San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade – the largest parade west of the Mississippi! There will be floats, high school marching bands, dancing groups, antique cars and representatives from Ireland. You will see it all! Thousands of spectators and marchers will celebrate the Patron Saint of Ireland and their Irish Roots.

More St. Patrick’s Day fun includes the Irish Festival at Balboa Park. It will include Irish Step Dancers, various Irish Folk singers and bands playing throughout the afternoon, a kids zone, Celtic food, craft booths and a Beer Garden.

Tall Ship Adventure

An authentic way to experience the San Diego culture is to board the gold rush era replica, the Californian! The Maritime Museum of San Diego offers the Tall Ship Adventure. Spend three hours sailing in a traditionally rigged ship. As passengers, you’ll learn about the history of sailing and exploration in San Diego, the whale and sea otter trade, various sea battles and what life is like at sea!

La Jolla Kayak Cave Tour

Are you up for an outdoor adventure? Just north from OPI, you can spend a day kayaking and looking at sea caves and cliffs throughout the La Jolla Ecological Reserve! No experience necessary! On your journey, you’ll see all kinds of marine life (such as sea lions, garibaldi, leopard sharks, shovelnose guitarfish or an occasional dolphin), come up close to marvelous sandstone formations, and explore seven different caves! San Diego in March is the perfect time to take advantage of a day on the water.

Old Town Tour

During the tour you can learn about San Diego’s roots from the early Spanish settlement to the California Gold Rush Era and everything in between. You will sample authentic Mexican cuisine from a few of the best restaurants in Old Town and explore some of the oldest graveyards near the historic town in San Diego.
