The Red Bull Air Race World Championship is returning to San Diego Bay with an exhilarating competition requiring pilots to complete a two-lap race at high speeds right above the bay. Up to 20 of the world’s top precision pilots will compete April 15-16 – around a course only 82 feet in the air – on the bay right along Embarcadero Marina Park and Seaport Village.
San Diego previously hosted this event back in 2009, when Nicholas Ivanoff won the competition…and he returns this year!
As of this year, the air race is an official World Championship…and is globally knows as the “fastest and most exhilarating motorsport on the planet!” For a visual reference, the racetrack will look something like this:
Where to Watch
If the Embarcadero Marina Park becomes a bit too crowded, Seaport Village is also a prime location. Besides the portside view, Seaport Village is home to more than 50 diverse shops selling everything from art to a store dedicated to selling hot sauces from all over the world! You can also find great food to match the setting. With more than 17 different restaurants, there’s enough food to make the whole family happy.
Plan Ahead for Parking and Tickets
It’s going to be a big weekend…get your tickets early and look into parking options. The event is located in downtown San Diego, which is a 25 minute drive from the Ocean Park Inn. There are plenty of private parking lots and street parking. If you plan on attending on Sunday, April 16, street parking is free of charge!
What are you waiting for? Experience an event that will take you off your feet!
