4th of July in San Diego

Summer kicks into high gear all around the nation on the 4th of July, and San Diego is no exception. If you’re still trying to decide on the best location for a patriotic getaway this year, look no further than San Diego.
4th of July parades, fireworks, and events will be held all over the county, but one of our favorite events is the quintessential Big Bay Firework show. The Big Bay Boom features some of the most spectacular fireworks you’ll ever see, and you can view them from all around the bay, including: Point Loma, Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Seaport Village, South Embarcadero and the Coronado Ferry Landing. The show will be viewed by over 500,000 people and is the largest annual event in the western United States.

Another one of the popular 4th of July events in San Diego will take place in beautiful Coronado. The island will host an exciting 2-hour parade, followed by a family concert in Spreckels Park. Enjoy this fun-filled afternoon on Coronado, and then stick around for a great view of the Big Bay Boom Fireworks!

Here’s everything you need to know about the 2015 Big Bay Boom:

  1. The Show: The Firework show will consist of about 18 minutes of the most technically advanced fireworks, choreographed to match up with music broadcast “live” on THE WALRUS 105.7FM radio. San Diego’s Big Bay Boom begins at 9pm.
  2. Transportation and Parking: Parking along San Diego Bay fills up quickly on the 4th of July, and Shelter Island is usually full by 1 p.m. Last year, Shelter Island was closed to incoming traffic at 1 p.m, and this year it is expected to close at about the same time. So make sure to get there early to avoid the frustration of sitting in traffic and not finding parking. The Big Bay Boom transportation partners help move you in and out of the bay quickly and safely with shuttles, trollies, the Coaster and Amtrack.
