Have you ever longed for the opportunity to head on over to Germany to sample several different types of beer and experience firsthand the exciting event known as Oktoberfest? Luckily, this year you won’t have to travel quite so far! Look no further than Southern California’s version of the famous event at this year’s Ocean Beach Oktoberfest. This event has become so popular that it has expanded to two nights, this year being held on Friday, October 7 from 4:00 – 10:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 8 from 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. In keeping with the Munich tradition, there will be 15 – 20 beers from local breweries available for sample. A happy hour will be featured from 5:00 – 6:31 p.m. (yes folks, 6:31 p.m.) where you can get two-for-one beers and brats. For your musical entertainment, there will be a Beer Garden Grand Slam ‘Battle of the Bands’ contest featuring a $4,000 prize. Feel free to enter your band, or help your favorite band win by participating in the voting. By this point, the only question still weighing on your mind is probably transportation. In the spirit of responsible drinking, there will be a free shuttle bus running every 30 minutes. The pick-up point for the shuttle will be near the 710 Beach Club, at 710 Garnet Avenue. The actual OB Oktoberfest is held at the intersection of Newport Avenue and Abbott Street, at the foot of the Ocean Beach pier. So all of you 21 and ups, come out and party like it’s Munich, 1810!
